Renty and his daughter Delia — a whole family raised together, 1830s–1870
Handed down whole from Columbia's founder, the family stayed on a single ground from the 1830s to freedom. Photographed for Agassiz in 1850. Renty dies before 1866, but the children Renty and Eady raised on Grubfield are emancipated and lead rich, interwoven lives after slavery.
